The HIB meningitis eradicated
Uganda has eradicated meningitis haemophilus influenza B in children aged under five years of age through an immunization campaign at the national level, announced the World Health Organization (WHO). The disease has been brought under control after the vaccination campaign in Uganda 2001-2006. "The incidence has decreased by 85% over four years after the introduction of the vaccine and to reach zero in the fifth year," said the official New Vision newspaper on Tuesday, citing a press release from WHO. According Zaramba Saturday, a senior official of the Ugandan Ministry of Health, the elimination of meningitis will help the country achieve its objectives of the Millennium Development Goals which are to reduce by two-thirds the child mortality rate by 2015.
